Netwerkkabel.eu sells cables with the PIMF standard and the LSZH standard. Cables can also be made of PVC. What do the abbreviations mean? And what does the AWG value mean and why is this so important? Read it below!
What do the abbreviations PIMF, LSZH, PVC and AWG mean?
Netwerkkabel.eu sells cables with the PIMF standard and the LSZH standard. Cables can also be made of PVC. What exactly do the abbreviations mean? In addition, cables also have an AWG value. What does this mean?
PIMF
Netwerkkabel.eu sells cables with the PIMF standard. PIMF stands for ' Pair In Metal Foil ' and means that each pair is individually wrapped in foil. This is also called S/FTP.
LSZH
LSZH stands for ' Low Smoke Zero Halogen '. Loosely translated, this means 'little smoke, no halogen'. If the cable burns out or is exposed to high temperatures (fire), an LSZH cable will produce less smoke and no gases will be released. This is due to the presence of thermoplastic.
PVC
PVC stands for ' Polyvinyl Chloride '. When a PVC cable burns or comes into contact with high temperatures such as fire, more gases are released and it produces more smoke. This is due to the halogens in the cable.
The difference is physically noticeable. PVC cables are generally soft and stranded and LSZH cables are somewhat stiffer and rough.
Both LSZH and PVC cables are excellent to use.
A.W.G
AWG stands for ' American Wire Gauge ' and is an American standard in which the cross-section of a wire is indicated by a numerical code. The size is measured without insulation.
The higher the number, the smaller the cross-section and therefore thinner the wire. A thicker wire carries more current and therefore less resistance. Thicker wire is therefore better for longer distances.
AWG table
Calculating the AWG of a cable is very complicated. Below you will find the table.
