PiMF is an abbreviation of the English 'Pair In Metal Foil'. It is better known by the abbreviation U/FTP (Unshielded/Foiled Twisted Pair). So it is a normal shielded network cable.

PiMF = U/FTP

PiMF is an abbreviation of the English 'Pair In Metal Foil'. It is generally better known by the abbreviation U/FTP (Unshielded/Foiled Twisted Pair). It is therefore a normal shielded network cable, where each pair of twisted wires is protected against interference and radiation. A PiMF/FTP cable are both different from UTP cables, because they are not shielded (UTP stands for 'Unshielded Twisted Pair'). Also read our blog 'What is an FTP cable'?

No interference or radiation

With PiMF cables, each twisted pair of wires is shielded against external interference such as crosstalk, EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and RFI (Radio Frequency Interference). In practice, it also means that the network cable itself emits less interference, so you can neatly bundle your PiMF network cables without any problems. Although for larger installations it is better to choose S/FTP cables, which have an extra shielding around the entire cable. Check all U/FTP cables here!
