UTP Cables
The UTP cable has been the standard cable for fast and stable internet for years. UTP cables are also the most sold ethernet cable . Here at netwerkkabel.eu UTP cables are available in the network categories Cat5e , Cat6 and Cat6a . The Cat6 variant is currently the most popular cable. This cable provides sufficient speed and bandwidth for a problem-free network, now and in the future.
The most popular UTP cables of 2023 are: the UTP CAT6 100 meters, UTP CAT5e 305 meters and the UTP Cat6 20 meters.
Buy UTP cable
UTP cables are divided into 3 categories (hence the much-used terminology 'CAT cable'). Which one you should choose depends on the speed and bandwidth you need.
- Cat5e: 1,000Mbps (1Gbit) / 100Mhz
- Cat6: 10,000Mbps (10Gbit) / 250Mhz
- Cat6a: 10,000Mbps (10Gbit) / 500Mhz
For most households, a Cat5e ethernet cable is still sufficient. But if you do a lot of things at the same time (streaming, gaming, VOIP applications, etc.), a Cat6 cable is recommended. Do you really want to be prepared for the future? Then choose Cat6a . You don't have to look higher in the categories for home use. Cat7 and Cat8 are intended for professional use, for example in data centers and for the IT infrastructure in offices.
What is a UTP cable?
A UTP cable, or Unshielded Twisted Pair, is a type of network cabling that uses twisted pairs of wires to transmit data. These cables are unshielded, meaning that they do not have any additional shielding to prevent electromagnetic interference.
The abbreviation UTP stands for Unshielded Twisted Pair , or, literally translated "unshielded twisted pair". Let's clarify that: in the sheath of a UTP cable there are eight unshielded ( unshielded ) separate wires. Four pairs ( p air) of these are twisted together ( t wisted). A UTP cable is therefore not shielded, because this is sometimes useful, there are also shielded cables such as FTP cables.
Stable internet with the right internet cable
Are you experiencing interference and/or is the internet cable close to a power cable, COAX cable or other possible source of interference? Then do not choose a UTP cable, but an FTP cable , such as a Cat6 S/FTP with double shielding for a small additional charge.

The technical story behind the UTP internet cable
UTP stands for Unshielded T wisted P air. This is an unshielded cable with 4 pairs of wires and is most commonly used in the Netherlands and Belgium because of its low price and excellent performance.
'UTP Cable' is actually an old name. The official name of this cable is U/UTP. Sometimes the cable is also called an RJ45 cable. This is because the connector (the connection) is an RJ45 connector .
This is how UTP cables are constructed:
U/ = Unshielded (no shielding of the entire cable)
/U = Unshielded (no shielding of the wire pairs)
T = Twisted (twisted pairs)
P = Pair (this refers to the fact that the cable internally consists of pairs of wires)
